Focus Your 2020 Vision

Focus Your 2020 Vision

By Scott Kemp

“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians‬ ‭3:13‬‬‬‬ NLT).

When I think of the year 2020, I immediately reflect on my vision, which is certainly not 20/20! I was born with a lazy left eye, and I’ve had vision problems most of my life. My condition required a couple of surgeries when I was an infant and forced me to wear a set of glasses with a patch over one eye to strengthen the weaker one.

Now, later in life, my eyes won’t adjust to contacts, so I wear bifocal glasses for reading. Due to a condition called Fuchs’ dystrophy, I recently needed cataract and cornea transplant surgery on both eyes.

As distracting as these physical issues have been, I think of all the other things that distract me from focusing on what’s really important. Distraction is the nemesis of focus. I’m constantly tempted to pull away from a consistent focus on Christ. My mind is often bombarded with thoughts about myself, family, friends, finances, and ministry that distract me from Jesus and his grace.

In this new year, my goal is to keep my “eyes” more focused on Jesus Christ. I’m striving to focus on things above, including eternal life. I want to focus my thoughts on Jesus and his grace. His unmerited favor on my life gives me the ability to do good works.

My challenge to you in 2020 is to take time to focus on his rich grace in your life and give thanks to God for it!

Happy New Year!
