Sometimes we just need to hear someone else say it out loud: “You’re not crazy.” “You’re on the right track.” “You can do that.” “You can do this.” I call it giving leaders permission. One of the greatest values of having a mentor or coach in our lives is having a safe place where we can process through the decisions we are wrestling with, and hear someone else tell us we’re not crazy for thinking what we’re thinking! We need permission! Sometimes the key that unlocks our future is having someone give us permission to do what we feel deep down we need to do.
So today, I thought I would send out permission far and wide. If you’re reading this post, I’m praying God will use me to give you permission!
You have permission to be still.
You have permission to take a chill pill. You have permission to rest. Take a day off. Take a week off. You have permission to plan your summer vacation now. You have permission to think long term and think about finishing well. This is not a 40-yard dash. It’s an ultramarathon! I give you permission to be still!
You have permission to know that he is God.
This is not all on you. You don’t have to be God. You just need to know God! I give you permission to seek him, trust him, and follow him. Be filled with the Spirit. Be led by the Spirit. You have permission not to substitute what you do for God for what you need to be with God.
You have permission to spend long periods of time reading, studying and meditating on God. However, it’s not enough just to study and read about God. I give you permission to know him. I give you permission to connect with him relationally and emotionally. Worship him. Spend time today in private worship of your Heavenly Father. I give you permission to know that he is God!
You have permission to lead yourself first.
Don’t feel bad about saying no to others sometimes so that you can lead yourself first. The greatest gift you give to others is a healthy you. I give you permission to read, study, and grow. I give you permission to eat better and exercise. The most difficult person you will ever lead is yourself. So lead yourself first: spiritually, emotionally, and physically. I give you permission to lead yourself first!
You have permission to go for it.
Has God not commanded you? Be strong and courageous for the Lord your God is with you! You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. You can’t do this, but God can do more than you can ask or imagine – so pull the trigger! Have the conversation. Make the decision. I give you permission to go for it!
